Steve is a registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is experienced with drafting and prosecuting patent applications for a variety of clients. He has been in the field of intellectual property for 15 years—first as a 3M patent liaison for the Biomaterials Technology Center and Corporate Materials Research Laboratory and then as a practitioner for 3M Legal Affairs where he practiced for 6 years at the end of his 3M career of 31 years. He also worked post-retirement in intellectual property for Ativa Medical, and other private firms prior to joining Grumbles Law. His areas of expertise in the patent arts include but are not limited to the chemical arts with a specialty in photochemical processes, electronic materials, biochemistry, chemical engineering, physics, mechanical systems, medical devices, energy systems such as lithium ion batteries and biomass conversion. Prior to his intellectual property career, Steve was a laboratory research and product development chemist at 3M. Steve holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from UCLA and graduated with honors in Chemistry from University of California, Berkeley.
In his spare time Steve enjoys outdoor activities such as camping, canoeing and hiking. He is an avid birdwatcher and has led Audubon trips in the area. Additionally, Steve is a Bronze Life Master bridge player. He also enjoys his four grandchildren who live in the area.
